Dr. Jeffrey J. Smith

Dr. Jeffrey J. Smith has lived in Arizona nearly his whole life.  He attended school in the Scottsdale Unified School District and graduated from Arizona State University with Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Elementary Education and Administration. Dr. Smith is currently the Superintendent of the Balsz School District where he has served with distinction for 11 years.

Dr. Smith is very active in the community serving on several boards and advisory councils. These include but are not limited to; Emergency Educator Support Services Board of Directors, Member of the Balsz Community Education Foundation and Member of the Board of Directors for Educare Arizona. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Business Education Coalition (ABEC) and serves on the Advisory Council for Support My Club, Expect More Arizona and Assistance League of Phoenix.

Dr. Smith has received numerous awards and recognitions including selection as the Arizona School Administrators Distinguished Administrator for Arizona in 2003, and serving as President for the State of Arizona. Dr. Smith is an accomplished author having published numerous articles in Galileo for the Superintendent and North Star for Principals.  He has been featured in District Administration Magazine and has received several awards for innovation and leadership.  In 2009 he was awarded the Spotlight on Success Award by the Arizona Department of Education and in 2010, he was recognized by Gateway Community College for the Innovation of the Year for the nationally recognized 200 day school calendar. From 2013-16 Dr. Smith served as Ambassador for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Dr. Smith was identified as a Diversity Champion by the Phoenix Business Journal and in 2013 was selected as the Arizona Superintendent of the Year.

Jeffrey has been married to his wife, Marta, for 35 years and has three children, Andrew and Stephanie, and Bryan and 2 grandsons.
